CULTURAL HERITAGE PROMOTION

Tourism and crafts sector are inextricably linked. Taping the inherent potential in the tourism and crafts sector in Kenya and in Africa for that matter can be strategically perceived in such an integrated approach.

In light of this, People to People Tourism is actively involved in promoting home based income generating activities like handicraft making as a meaningful economic activity through which the nation’s deepest heritage and traditions, cultural roots and customs of folk and art can be passed on from one generation to the next.

In addition to that, a well organized and managed crafts industry has the potential for employment and wealth creation. It can also help in curbing rural-urban migration. Like tourism, crafts sector stands to earn the country the much needed foreign currency through exports and sale of the same to visiting tourists.

PPT: A tour for anyone at any age

People to People Tourism (PPT) is a tour that aims to inculcate respect for other peoples culture and environmental integrity within the context of responsible tourism. PPT is a tour for anyone at any age. It is a brand of tourism that appeals to what is most basic in everyday life. PPT is open to every culture and teaches us to live well as good citizens, parents, workers, teachers or artisans to name but a few. PPT aims at building bridges nd breaking social barriers.

PPT's mission is is to creatively nurture new ideas through product diversification in collaboration with other stakeholders locally, regionally and internationally in terms of opening up unique and unutilized new tourism packages. We offer a wide range of enriching tours. This includes visits to the country’s heritage sites, rural villages for a breath of fresh air, Mt. Kenya climbing and to our various world famous wildlife and natural attractions.

In essence, we do not want to restrict our thinking to Traditional or convectional Tourism because that may make our customers miss tremendous opportunities. PPT idea is regarded as a tool for greater cross-cultural understanding and international cooperation between peoples; love for nature and wildlife.

In recognition of PPTs’ visionary idea and school of thought, the PPT brainchild was in 2002 the first Kenyan to receive the coveted Ashoka International Fellowship Award for social entrepreneurs. The award honors innovative and proactive minded social change makers www.changemakers.net, http://www.ashoka.org/ In the year 2003, People to People Tourism won the prestigious Kenya Bureau of Standards 1st prize in the service category of the Kenya Quality Award (KQA) http://www.kebs.org/. While in 2001, PPT sister organization - Crafts of Africa also won the same KQA 1st prize in the service category. The award is based on international standards that put winners here at home at par with those from other countries. The KQA Award is designed and developed in the same way as the coveted Deming Awards of Japan, the European Quality Award for the EU, the USA Malcolm Bridge National Quality awards among others.
